Policy makers and commissioners are increasingly concerned about value for money for mainstreaming social policies. This article describes a project in which we worked with the budget holding lead professionals (BHLP) pilots. The project set out to develop a pragmatic approach to costing BHLP and estimating costs avoided as a result of BHLP. We aimed to equip professionals with the tools and skills to collect and review data to improve resource use.
