'I am primarily interested in issues of discrimination and inequalities that affect minority groups in society. Working as a social researcher I hope to influence policy in these areas, amongst others, by promoting equality and positive change. I believe it is important to gather evidence from key stakeholders concerned by policy decisions and public services. Conducting interviews, surveys and focus groups is essential to express the views and experiences of those affected; thereby enhancing the understanding and implications of policies and services endorsed or provided by local authorities and central government departments.
I enjoy carrying out interviews and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, in an aim to examine the effectiveness of policy enforcement and service delivery. Literature reviews mean I get to find out more about the social, political and economic contexts of the issues that matter most to me, whilst analysing existing research and gaps in policy knowledge. Evaluation case studies enable me to assess external services provided to public sector organisations.
Since joining OPM I have worked on projects related to drug use amongst minority groups, the provision of positive activities for young people and evaluative assessments of community engagement within local councils.'
