I have held roles as a policy advisor in Whitehall, a director of audit and inspection for the Audit Commission and led whole organisation transformation as an executive director at a unitary local authority. I love to create dynamic spaces where imagination and innovation can flow, where together we collaborate to make something stronger. With over twenty years experience in the public sector I have taken organisations, teams and individuals through innovative organisation and service design and development; starting from first principles and building fit for purpose organisations and services that achieve their goals.
Developing a breadth of understanding of innovation in a political environment; securing commitment and maintaining energy and focus have ensured the conditions for success. Getting it done by assessing change readiness and advising on strategies for effective implementation of significant projects and programmes. Often this has meant coaching leaders and top teams to work with ambiguity and their own vulnerability in order to lead in challenging times.
The systems are important too. My leadership of performance management and the systems and culture changes required to secure and maintain improvement have moved my organisations from poor to performing, from good to great. The values and expertise I bring to deep community engagement has embraced the role of local people as partners in delivery and implementing strategies to realise this ambition.
I am a director of RE:generate, a social action charity with a mission to enhance public participation that catalyses change and improves lives. It aims to address the root causes of poverty and disadvantage through participatory education, leadership development and enterprising collaborative action.
