John Tierney

John has extensive experience of the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

John’s assignments have ranged from organisational development, strategic planning, governance and leadership development to management reviews, performance management assignments and policy development work for leading UK and international organisations. At the heart of his offer is leadership and change management including governance and John loves to work with groups of professionals to effect transformational change.

John was a director of Compass Partnership, a management consultancy practice, which he joined in 1996 after five years with the Audit Commission, the public sector watchdog. In that role, he led their work with the housing sector’s funding and regulatory agency, the Housing Corporation. More recently he wrote four published reports on governance and leadership questions that informed future regulation of that sector and foreshadowed the findings of the 2010 Walker Report into the governance of publically listed companies.

Prior to an MBA, in which he specialised in HR/organisational development, John worked in a variety of management capacities in the UK and internationally. One of these roles was as a manager with Voluntary Service Overseas, including long spells in Zambia and in Belize as Programme Director. John is a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, as well as a Fellow of the RSA.

John is the Director of transform management consultancy, a practice set up in 2003 to work with the strategic and organisational challenges of running business organisations.
