Ian joined Dialogue by Design in January 2011. He is Dialogue by Design’s Analysis Manager, a specialist role that sees him work across project teams, providing essential input to the design and management of DbyD’s qualitative data analysis. In recent years Ian’s management of consultation response analysis has helped DbyD maintain its position as the leading consultancy for the delivery of high-profile consultations. He has a thorough understanding of clients’ requirements under planning legislation and several years’ experience delivering complex consultation processes.
Having coordinated the analysis process on a number of large scale projects, Ian has extensive experience of all stages of analysis, from initial development of the coding framework through to reporting. His role involves managing a team of analysts and coordinating the analysis process on larger consultation projects, in particular a number of high profile public consultations on high speed rail for the Department for Transport (DfT) and HS2 Ltd.
In addition to leading analysis on many projects, as Analysis Manager Ian is responsible for reviewing and improving the analysis process at DbyD and oversees the recruitment of analysts. With a masters degree in Planning he also leads on monitoring policy developments affecting planning and consultation, in particular changes to the consents process for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP).
Before joining the team Ian completed a placement with the Planning Policy unit at Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, carrying out research to support the evidence base for local planning policy. This involved surveying and assessing commercial and industrial sites in the Borough, collating data on local employment trends and liaising with local property agents. Prior to this Ian worked in an administrative support position at Surrey County Council.
Ian holds a master’s degree in Planning and Sustainability from Kingston University.
