Good practice case studies This report, which includes examples of innovative developments, looks at future policies for governance and public engagement in response to the forces operating on local government.
OPM helps organisations to think strategically about the future. Our techniques include scenarios, visioning, forces and drivers analysis and horizon scanning. We have used these in a large range of projects – from energy policy to dental health.

Public Service Futures 2017
We all know how quickly the world around us is changing. Global, national, regional and local trends will define the future context in which UK public services must operate, but where are these trends taking us? This is the focus for our newest project which is exciting interest across the UK. Will you join us?
MPs, journalists, civil servants and figures in the third sector and business world will be helping us to build a series of coherent and challenging scenarios describing what public services are likely to be doing in 2017. Our aim is not to predict the future, but to paint realistic 'images' of the UK ten years from now. Then, by analysing the implications for public services, we hope to provoke discussion and debate and, ultimately, the actions necessary to respond to those implications.
We've done this before. In 1995 we developed two strategic scenarios for the future of public services in 2007.
We're looking for nominations to join our panel
You can be part of our new research. To make our 2017 scenarios as robust and wide-ranging as possible, we are recruiting a panel of 500 leading opinion formers. We are asking you to nominate colleagues, or yourself, for this panel. You can use our nomination form or email Emma Norris to let her know you're interested or to ask for more information.
