Analytical studies and research
We established our Analytical Studies Unit (ASU) because our clients told us they needed:
- evidence to support their decision making and action
- high quality research, produced within demanding timescales
- research that is informed by a deep understanding of the political, organisational and social context within which public services operate.
OPM's Analytical Studies Unit provides high quality research, expertly delivered, which also draws upon the knowledge and expertise of other OPM consultants. We have undertaken a wide range of research projects for clients across the public services including long term evaluations, guidance and toolkits, policy and practice reviews, consultations and surveys, and 360 degree feedback processes. We work particularly closely with the Stakeholder Engagement team who lead OPM's work in engaging stakeholders in decision making.
Who do we work with? • central government departments • non-departmental public bodies • local authorities • strategic health authorities • primary care trusts • police authorities • trusts and partnerships • individual voluntary and community organisations • private businesses wishing to contribute to social results.
We can help you to focus on appropriate evidence,
interpretation and action.
Our projects are always tailor-made to fit specific objectives and contexts.
We have a strong focus on building on current learning and
the experiences of others,
recognising the validity of both 'hard' and 'soft' data
including the views of a wide range of stakeholders.
We undertake both small 'quick and clean' projects and larger more complex projects. Because our research capacity is large we are able to respond to a wide range of requirements quickly and effectively.
ASU is skilled in the following methodologies: • literature reviews • public consultation • case study research focus groups and in-depth interviewing • desk research • policy formulation and testing • best value reviews • longitudinal studies • accessing hard-to-reach audiences • cross sectional surveys • summative and formative evaluations • attitudinal surveys • feasibility studies • experience-track case studies • web-based surveys • modified Delphi studies • mapping exercises.
