KIDS launches resources designed to support families with disabled children using personal budgets
OPM has supported disabled children’s charity KIDS in the creation of a free suite of resources that support the families and carers of disabled children in using personal budgets.
The resources, released yesterday, form part of the Department for Education sponsored ‘Making it Personal’ initiative.
OPM worked alongside KIDS, Disability Rights UK, In Control, NAFIS and the Daycare Trust to develop guidance for commissioners on personalisation, and a handbook for parents and carers of disabled children that explains what personal budgets are and how they can be used.
The work was developed in response to the Department for Education’s Support and Aspiration: A new approach to special educational needs and disability Green Paper, which promised to give parents “more control over the support their family receives”.
