How Bath developed new thinking on coping with winter pressures

Stephen Dorrell, chair of the Commons health committee, said earlier this year: “It is clear that the structures established 60 years ago are not appropriate for the 21st century. We need to reorganise the way in which emergency and urgent care is delivered.”

Would anyone dare to contradict this assertion now, as reports of underperformance in trusts pile up, and accident and emergency departments are forced to close their doors? The realisation that winter pressure money does not in themselves solve winter pressures grows. Jeremy Hunt is on record saying: “This is a serious long term problem which needs fundamental changes to equip our A&Es for the future.”
