The project team is led by four experienced researchers in the field of Muslim communities and community cohesion. They are Dr. Serena Hussain, Sanah Sheikh, Ewan King and Chloe Cook. The team has had extensive experience of engaging with young British Muslims, and are aware of current student sensitivities towards domestic and international British policies.

If you would like to contact a member of the team, please send an email to Sanah Sheikh

The Project Team

Currently, Dr. Hussain is finishing work on 'Islam at Universities in Britain' under the commission of Bill Rammel. As part of the research, she has organised and facilitated several focus groups with Muslim students. This has not only allowed her to develop numerous contacts with unions, student bodies and individuals, but has also exposed her to what works best when talking with those students who are quite suspicious and defensive of discussing discrimination and/or Islamophobia. Her book 'Muslims on the Map' is about to be published.

image of Sanah SheikhSanah Sheikh has worked on a comprehensive qualitative investigation into the marriage practices and gendered identities of women in Pakistan. It explored a generational comparison of the experience of marriage for women in light of the climate of increasing westernisation and globalisation in Pakistan. Sanah was responsible for all the phases of the project ranging from conducting in-depth semi-structured interviews to literature reviews and report writing.

The team also includes OPM consultants who have a great deal of experience working with 'hard-to-reach' communities and of doing qualitative and quantitative research.

image of Ewan King Ewan King, a Director at OPM, is our project manager. Ewan has worked as a social researcher and policy analyst since 1998. He has experience of conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, but specialises in in-depth interviews, focus groups, case studies and interactive workshops.

image of Chloe Cook Chloe Cook is an OPM researcher and has facilitated focus groups and conducted interviews with hard-to-access groups, service users and professionals. Her recent projects at OPM include working with the Equalities Review and the Mayor of London to identify key issues for women in London.
