Empowering Leadership programme

The essential programme for talented managers who commission and provide local public services, whether you work in the public, private or third sector

The Empowering Leadership programme supports talented managers who are at the forefront of thinking and practice in leading new public services. Building on Future Leadership, our ‘gold standard’ programme commissioned by CLG, this programme will provide you with the tools and ideas to lead in and with your organisation, collaborators and communities – and deliver value for your customers. If you are involved in commissioning or delivering public services, we will help you to meet the challenges and opportunities of change. Working alongside leaders from across the sectors, you will be part of the next generation of public service leaders.

Who is this programme for?

You will have the potential to lead transformation in local services. A successful candidate will require a high degree of management skill and talent, and be employer sponsored. You could be working in:

  • a local authority
  • an outsourced service or local authority trading company, or a private company
  • a voluntary or charitable organisation
  • a housing association
  • a local strategic partnership
  • a health trust or GP commissioning consortium
  • a mutual, co-operative or social enterprise
  • a service-user organisation
  • the fire, rescue or police services offender management or criminal justice.

What will you achieve?

The programme will help you to:

  • enhance your leadership and management skills to prepare for new demands and changing roles
  • improve your performance in service delivery and transformation
  • develop best-practice solutions to the opportunities and challenges facing your organisation
  • achieve the most from collaborations or commissioning new providers
  • contribute to service, community and commercial sustainability
  • build effective engagement strategies with internal and external stakeholders
  • motivate staff and external stakeholders during significant changes in public services.

The programme

You will have the opportunity to:

  • attend three residential learning modules (a total of 7.75 days) over six months at Ashridge Business School
  • undertake a radical transformation project that will provide tangible benefit for your organisation
  • do practical and experimental work
  • hear experienced guest speakers explore different organisational cultures
  • receive coaching and support from colleagues, buddies and an experienced team of tutors and executive coaches
  • access distance learning materials and Ashridge’s Virtual Learning Resource Centre (VLRC)
  • explore winning ideas and practice from across the sectors
  • receive feedback from your colleagues and peers on your current leadership and personal styles through our bespoke ‘AIMS’ 360° tool and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

Programme fees are £4,300 plus VAT, which includes all accommodation, course materials, meals and refreshments. Travel and other personal expenses are not included.
